Old strengths, new demands: Time for a user-centered update
BiBox, the digital teaching system of the Westermann Group, is turning 10 years old and has grown in functions and components over the years. The integration of new features and the implementation of the Accessibility Act presented the team with complex challenges – both technically and conceptually. A redesign was the logical next step.

Fresh UI design that engages users – and fits the brand
Together with the Westermann team, we developed a new, modern look for BiBox: new fonts, matching icons, well-thought-out spacing and colors that match the brand. This resulted in a coherent design language as the basis for the new user interface – a design that grows with the company so that BiBox remains scalable and consistent in the future.
The project process: From kick-off to launch
Kick-off
In the kick-off workshop, target groups, personas and pain points were analysed and the status quo was evaluated.
Wireframes/Prototypes
All functions and screens of the web application have been redesigned. The basis: a clear content and navigation concept that ensures scalability and accessibility.
5-minute tests
Small UX questions were continuously validated with compact user tests – efficiently and purposefully.
UX Studies
Teachers and students tested the new BiBox in extensive studies. Feedback flowed directly into the further development.
Launch
Even in the beta version, the redesigned BiBox received a lot of positive feedback.
Efficient collaboration on an equal footing
Continuous collaboration: This project thrived on a lively exchange – PO, editors, dev and UX design. Weeklys, kick-offs for individual projects and collaboration in Figma files – so that our ideas and the internal knowledge that was collected over the years flourish together.
MVP to Future Idea: WHow can the launch date be ensured without losing features? The MVP approach helps: We coordinate the effort with the dev team and break down feature ideas. Ideas for other features go into the backlog.
UI design of the AI features: How does AI and school fit together? How can we ensure acceptance from the very beginning? With interviews, usability tests and UX concepts, we support the AI product team in the development of AI-supported task development and evaluation.
