The challenge

Finding the right talent in competitive markets

Receiving as many strong applications as possible and filling positions as quickly as possible—what company doesn’t dream of that? Especially in highly competitive job markets, such as those for development and leadership roles, many positions currently remain unfilled.

Companies need to get more creative in order to attract the right candidates.

The same was true for the product team at Hanseatic Bank: The search for two people leads and new colleagues on the development team proved to be difficult. They wanted to change that, so the team took a close look at their job postings.

As with every new feature and most major optimizations, they conducted UX tests using RapidUsertests. Only this time, instead of directing the test participants to the website or app as they usually do, they directed them to the two job postings.

How it works

Design job postings that reflect the spirit of the times

RapidUsertests are remote UX tests in which participants test the subject on their own devices in their natural environment. They are most commonly used to test websites and apps. However, anything with a URL can be tested, including, for example, images, text files, and PDFs.

This makes it possible to improve job postings and design compelling career pages in just a few days. Here’s how the tests at Hanseatic Bank were conducted:

Project launch

The product team initiates the tests and coordinates with HR.

Conducting the tests

The product team conducts the tests in the form of content tests with 10 test participants per job posting.

Optimization

The product team optimizes the job postings, particularly in terms of wording, repetition, and benefits.

Recruiting

The product team forwards the job postings to the HR team, which then begins the recruiting process.

New employees

The positions will be filled very soon.

The findings

Content testing of job postings yields over 30 highly qualified applications

The job postings were analyzed using content testing. The test subjects were asked to highlight in a document the positive and negative aspects of the job posting text that stood out to them and to explain why. Here are some of the findings:

  • Some of Hanseatic Bank’s internal terms were not understood and need to be explained.
  • Some points were repeated several times throughout the job posting.
  • Benefits and employee perks should be described in more detail.
  • Certain aspects of the company did not seem authentic in some instances.

The optimized job postings were very well received. Within a very short time, 30 highly qualified candidates applied for the People Lead position.

The HR department also welcomed the improvements and will adjust future job postings based on the feedback.
