Sustainability at Userlutions

From User Experience to Planet Experience: We believe that every company shares a responsibility to combat the climate crisis and commit to sustainable business practices. For us, it is therefore a matter of course to implement measures that promote environmental protection and social justice so that we can become as sustainable a company as possible.

Our initiatives for more sustainability

Planting trees to offset CO₂ emissions

We try to minimize our CO₂ emissions wherever possible. We offset any remaining emissions by supporting climate protection projects.

In keeping with the “Effective Altruism” approach, it’s important to us to make the best use of our time and money to improve the lives of as many people as possible in the most comprehensive way. Planting trees is one of the most efficient ways to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere. This is most effective in the Global South, where trees grow up to four times faster and thus sequester more CO₂.

That is why we support projects like Eden Reforestation, which not only plant trees but also support local communities by providing secure jobs. Reforestation creates healthy forests that mitigate the harmful effects of deforestation, such as flooding, erosion, and desertification.

Instead of giving flowers, cakes, and cards, we give our employees carbon offsets for their birthdays. And for every test participant booked through our UX testing tool, RapidUsertests, we plant a tree.

Electricity from renewable energy sources

Our electricity, heating, and hot water come from 100% renewable energy.

Strict travel policies

Whenever possible, we avoid business trips; otherwise, we avoid short-haul flights and prefer to travel by train.

Eco-friendly commuting

We cover the cost of our employees’ public transportation passes and Deutschlandtickets, and offer them affordable bike leasing through Jobrad.

Green retirement planning

We offer our employees a green/more sustainable company pension plan.

Sustainability reports

Every year, we prepare a sustainability report to track, adjust, and redefine our goals.

Organic & vegan

Our cabinets are stocked with organic fruits and vegetables, and for many food items, we offer vegan alternatives.

Reuse and recycle

We prefer to get our food in reusable containers, we drink tap water, and we consistently recycle our trash.

Guidelines on gender-inclusive language

We are committed to inclusion and ensure that our internal and external communications use gender-inclusive language.

Leaders for climate action

We are part of the Leaders for Climate Action community, which advocates for an economic system in which sustainability, equity, and prosperity are in balance.

Team events with a focus on sustainability

It is also important to us to address environmental, sustainability, and social issues at our team events.

As part of our big annual team event, we plan activities such as a cleanup day, planting in the garden, and renovation projects.

As part of our monthly team event series, we regularly incorporate sustainability topics, such as a fermentation workshop on reducing food waste and producing sustainable honey.

Pro bono projects for nonprofit organizations

We believe that good UX design can also have a positive impact on society. That’s why we support select nonprofit organizations on a pro bono basis—by offering our expertise, methodological know-how, and passion for user-centered solutions.

Here’s an example: For ForTomorrow, we refined the website’s messaging based on in-depth user insights—so that the messages resonate and make an impact.
